Job Summary

The Education Department of Carthage College invites applications for a tenure-track position in special education at the Assistant rank, effective Fall 2019. We are seeking a faculty member who has expertise in special education. The candidate will teach special education courses as well as any of the following courses: educational psychology and assessment, early childhood literacy, elementary math methods, behavioral management, urban education, educational foundations, diverse learners, or graduate-level thesis.

The Education Department provides a cross-categorical program in which Teacher candidates will be certified in elementary education and special education upon their completion. Meanwhile,Secondary Teacher candidates can also be certified in both their subject area and special education.In addition to that, the department further provides add-on special education licensure for those Teachers who are working at local K-12 schools. In the near future, the department seeks to provide master's degree in special education for our undergraduate students and the Teachers
from local schools. Through many years of collaboration and trust, the department has built a strong relationship with local schools that boast a variety of innovative programs and diverse student populations and can also provide a rich environment for field experience, student teaching, and research.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

Candidates must have an earned doctorate (or ABD with 2020 completion date) in special education and teaching experience in the K-12 school environment. To be considered, candidates must provide evidence of effective college teaching as an Instructor or Teaching Assistant. The candidates also need to provide evidence of Pre K-12 teaching experience and scholarship.
