Instructional Designer - part-time, limited term

Carthage College invites applicants for the role of Instructional Designer. This is a part-time (29 hours per week) limited term position (January, 2019 through May, 2019) that will partner with the Office for Continuing Studies, and will work collaboratively with the Teaching Commons and Library/Information Services to expand and enhance the college's ability to offer high quality blended, and potentially online, learning opportunities for our students.


  • Guide development of models and processes for the design and evaluation of blended and online courses that meet established standards in higher education and reflect criteria of interest to liberal arts colleges - including those unique to Carthage; this will necessarily include some course building
  • Facilitate development of a plan for the ongoing evaluation and enhancement of courses in the Adult Undergraduate Program and graduate programs
  • Help develop programming designed to prepare faculty and students for successful course engagement  
  • Collaborate with staff from the Teaching Commons and Library/Information Services in development of in-house expertise required to support various course delivery methods


The successful candidate must: (1) have a Bachelor's degree with post-graduate training in Instructional Design; (2) demonstrate leadership experience with collaborative Instructional Design projects; (3) be able to have a flexible work schedule that accommodates the college's academic calendar.

Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's degree in Instructional Design (or a related field), have experience in higher education settings, and can demonstrate relevant teaching experience.
