Position Summary: The Frank Porter Graham (FPG) Child Development Institute is an interdisciplinary research center dedicated to the study of children and families through research, training, technical assistance, and policy studies. The Institute is primarily funded through federal, state, and foundation research grants. FPG serves as one of the nation''s leading early childhood research centers offering excellent opportunity for collaborative work with both University faculty and national researchers in multiple disciplines. FPG promotes collaboration across disciplines as well as the translation and dissemination of knowledge to help children live healthier and more productive lives. FPG has a particular focus on helping children with special needs or disabilities such as autism, fragile X syndrome, and other developmental disorders and is producing research and developing treatment models that span the biological to behavioral sciences. The ITS core of the FPG Child Development Institute provides full information technology (IT) support for the Institute''s three locations: FPG Research Building, Sheryl-Mar South Building, and Sheryl-Mar North Building. Services include standard desktop laptop and network support for 250 research-related staff, as well as specialized network and web services for as many as 70 research programs. Operations include network file and print services, web and Internet services, email service, back-up and security services, and desktop support services to a broad range of researchers associated with FPG or related academic departments at UNC. The ITS Director will collaborate extensively with research projects, other core units at FPG, and with individual researchers. This collaboration will frequently involve assisting FPG researchers and administration with the inclusion of appropriate IT budget projections in grant proposals, including the computing and web design requirements (personnel and non-personnel) of new and established projects. The ITS Director is responsible for all IT planning and operations, provides supervision to the ITS staff and provides information technology leadership to the Institute's research projects and other administrative units. They will plan, implement, and evaluate existing resources and services on an ongoing basis, which includes preparing and managing an approximate annual budget of $500,000 as well as IT infrastructure management such as networking upgrades and web platform strategies.

Education Requirements: A masters degree or undergraduate degree with a minimum of 10 years experience in computer information technology in an academic and or research environment is required.
Qualification and Experience: The ITS director reports to the Director of the Institute, and must be able to lead, administer, and make decisions independently. The director must have a comprehensive knowledge of data management components, information technology, web development and networking requirements of simultaneous and multiple research projects within a large research unit. Experience in computer information technology in an academic and or research environment in required.
