Position Description: CHAIR DEPARTMENT OF PATHOBIOLOGY UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA SCHOOL OF VETERINARY MEDICINE The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine seeks a distinguished academic leader for the position of CHAIR of the DEPARTMENT OF PATHOBIOLOGY. Appointment will be at the level of FULL PROFESSOR with TENURE. The Department of Pathobiology consists of faculty members with diverse expertise representing basic and translational research, laboratory animal medicine, and clinical diagnostics including pathology, microbiology and parasitology. It is recognized as one of the foremost basic science departments in veterinary medicine, is a key partner in biomedical research at Penn, and has contributed globally to our mechanistic understanding of host-pathogen interactions, fundamental immunology, neuro-inflammation, and cancer. With over $59 million in current funding from NIH and other sources, the department supports the Penn Vet Imaging Core, Comparative Pathology Core, Center for Host Microbial Interactions, the Division of Lab Animal Medicine, and the Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Lab System (PADLS). It also plays a vital role in post-graduate veterinary training and Biomedical Graduate Studies across Penna€™s campus, and pathobiology faculty serve in leadership and teaching roles in the Immunology and the Cell and Molecular Biology Graduate Groups. The department delivers foundational veterinary education based upon contemporary biomedical principles. The unique proximity to premier academic veterinary and medical hospitals provides ample opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research to advance both veterinary and human medicine. Details of the research interests of the department can be found at: We are seeking an individual with an outstanding academic background including internationally recognized research credentials, a track record of extramurally funded research programs, demonstrated commitment to excellence in research and teaching, experience in mentoring junior faculty, and proven leadership and management skills in an academic environment. The successful applicant will present a clear vision for leading the department in support of its diverse missions, and demonstrate capacity to broadly shape its future research endeavors, education and training opportunities, and interactions within and outside the department. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an appropriate discipline and/or a VMD/DVM or MD.
