Assistant/Associate Professor

Job description

POSITION:  Assistant/Associate Professor (50% Research and 50% Teaching), 9-month academic year, tenure track or tenured appointment in the Department of Foods and Nutrition

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 1) Develop a nationally recognized and externally-funded research program; 2) Direct and support research programs of PhD and MS-level students; 3) Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in nutritional sciences areas; 4) Engage in collaborative and interdisciplinary research programs with faculty in the Department of Foods and Nutrition and in related UGA departments/colleges; and 5) Contribute to activities that serve the department, college, university, the public and the profession

QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered for the position of Assistant Professor, the applicant must hold an earned doctorate (at time of appointment) in nutritional sciences or a closely-related scientific field. The applicant must have an academic background in nutritional sciences and have demonstrated productivity in basic or clinical/basic research. The applicant should have demonstrated scholarly competence and research productivity, or the potential for such. To be considered for the position of Associate Professor, the applicant must meet the above qualifications, and have attained tenure at a comparable university or have at least four years of experience and an outstanding record of research productivity. To be considered for the Associate Professor level, candidates must demonstrate clear and convincing evidence of emerging stature as a regional or national authority as appropriate for the position. To be eligible for tenure on appointment, candidates must be appointed as an associate professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. Candidates for the Assistant Professor rank that can demonstrate evidence in preparation and submission of external research grants are preferred. Candidates for the Associate Professor rank with at least one funded research grant as PI and at least one year of post-doctoral research experience are preferred.

The Department of Foods and Nutrition is a unit of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences at the University of Georgia. The department has 25 faculty, 400 undergraduate students majoring in Nutritional Sciences, Dietetics, and Culinary Science and Nutrition as well as 35 graduate students in the PhD and MS graduate degree programs https://www.fcs.uga.edu/fdn.
