About the Position
**2 year Temporary Appointment**
The incumbent supports the strategic communication needs of Office of the IT/VP & CIO by developing and implementing communication plans encompassing all available channels including traditional PR, social media, digital communications and publicity for and chronicling of the Division of Information Technology.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Assists the Director, IT Program Management & Communication in the development of communication, strategy and plans.
Assists the Office of CIO with preparing Division level communication material including but not limited to Division meeting presentation and IT campus brochures.
Researches, drafts, and refines the IT VP/CIO voice communications including prepared texts, informal remarks and talking points based on event and audience needs.
Supports the creation of talking points and other content supporting interactions with news media and other influencers.
Assists the Director, IT Program Management & Communication as needed with preparing the VP/CIO for interviews and other forms of news media interaction.
Researches, drafts, refines and ensures placement of other IT leaders' communications across appropriate internal messaging platforms as requested.
Communicate IT event information to staff and campus communities as needed.
Drafts and publishes IT Campus newsletters and IT Division newsletters.
Media Content Management
Responsible for IT Division's web contents and digital signage content.
Supports multiple messaging platforms, such as digital newsletters, blogs, website and social media accounts.
Serves as IT Division digital signage administrator, create content, provide statistical reports and respond to requests for the Division.
Collaborates with SJSU Divisions, Colleges/Departments and programs to enhance content, design and features for digital signage.
Provides training on the usage of digital signage software to campus stakeholders.
Collaborates with campus technicians on the new digital signage content
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree, which includes relevant coursework in the field, and five years of related professional or technical experience.
Master's degree in related field or equivalent progressive experience in a PR or communications role.
5 years of experience working media relations for a large organization or an institution of higher education.
Experience in traditional, internet, social and digital media coverage.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to prepare communication objectives and convey them effectively both verbally and in written formats.
Thorough knowledge in researching and identifying communication needs and target audiences; thorough knowledge of social media, web communication techniques, platforms and formats.
Ability to effectively use web technologies to achieve communication goals.
Working knowledge of protocols and institutional etiquette related to public and media relations.
Ability to define and deliver messages, interviews, research and writing for web and print publication.
Ability to present information that meets the requirements of media and publications involved and that is designed for audiences with various interests.
Demonstrated ability to provide customer service in a high level diplomacy and professionalism.
High standards of ethical and confidentiality in dealing with internal and external constituencies.
Ability to learn, interpret, and apply CSU, SJSU, and IT policies and procedures relating to and impacting IT work, and/or administrative specialties.
Basic knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to written materials, news media and confidentiality.
Working knowledge of applicable software packages.
Strong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain relationships within the university and community and with the media.
Basic knowledge and understanding of media outlets.
