Primary Function of Organization Unit: North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications and events, Cooperative Extension agents deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens. Lincoln County has beautiful rural farming communities in the western portion of the county, with a growing suburban community in the eastern Lake Norman area. The eastern population is growing rapidly along with construction of new housing developments, as Lake Norman and quick access to the major city of Charlotte, NC provide considerable draw for an expanding population. Because of range of community types in the county and rapid growth in areas, there is need for an expanding and creative vision of educational programming to be provided by Cooperative Extension. Essential Job Duties: Essential responsibilities for the position include planning, marketing, conducting and evaluating educational programs in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) for Lincoln County. Emphasis of the Family and Consumer Sciences program is on nutrition, food safety, health and wellness, food preservation, local foods, chronic disease reduction, and volunteer management. The position will conduct viable, proactive research-based educational programs in these areas. The position will collaborate with Extension agents in the region on common educational program initiatives. All agents are expected to have a youth component in their programming. There is a strong demand for food safety information from both home audiences and the restaurant trade. The ability to obtain training in an approved food safety certification program is expected.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Department Required Skills: The person in this position must be self-directed and possess a strong work ethic. The successful candidate should be energetic, innovative, and a good manager of time and other resources. Organizational, interpersonal, marketing, and networking skills are desirable. Other skills needed include knowledge and experience in educational presentations, public relations and marketing, print media, leadership, and computer usage. The ability to evaluate programs and document contacts and impacts is essential.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: A Master's degree at time of hiring is desirable, with at least one degree in family and consumer sciences, nutrition or related sciences. The expectation is that a Master's degree will be pursued after hiring. Grantsmanship skills and experience with the ability to secure and manage outside funding resources in order to develop innovative programming is desired.

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: Valid Driver's License and reliable, personal transportation required. Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
