Primary Function of Organization Unit: NC LIVE is North Carolina's statewide library cooperative, supporting 205 public and academic libraries through its mission to support education, enhance economic development, and improve the quality of life of all North Carolinians. NC LIVE provides content, products, services, professional development and technical support to North Carolina's libraries. Content includes an online collection of 1.4 billion full-text articles, eBooks, streaming videos, digitized newspapers, language learning tools, and more. NC LIVE provides authentication, discovery and website services to libraries to eliminate barriers to access. NC LIVE is reducing the cost of higher education through its Open Education North Carolina initiative, which supports the adoption of free, open textbooks in college courses. NC LIVE provides professional development opportunities through regional workshops, the instruction program, and an annual conference. Since its founding in 1997 by representatives of its four Communities of Interest (the community college system, the independent colleges and universities, the public libraries and State Library, and the state university system), NC LIVE has enjoyed a track record of success using entrepreneurial and innovative approaches that build on its collaborative infrastructure. The organization acts as a conduit for partnership as its Executive Director engages member libraries, state agencies, and other groups with shared values and goals. NC LIVE has an operating budget of more than $4.3 million and is funded through recurring state appropriations, with solid annual support from the independent colleges and universities. The consortium's offices are headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina at its host institution, North Carolina State University Libraries, well renowned for its achievements in advancing library technologies and spaces.
Essential Job Duties: NC LIVE seeks to fill the position of Instruction Librarian to lead all aspects of NC LIVE's statewide instruction program. This program ensures that library professionals across the state are familiar with NC LIVE resources, know how and when to use them, and can effectively integrate them into their local library's instruction and programming. The person in this role is responsible for developing synchronous and asynchronous online instructional content; delivering in-person instruction sessions to library professionals; promoting the instruction program; and measuring and reporting on the program's impact. This person may also serve as liaison to an Advisory Committee. Duties and responsibilities will include: * Assess information needs of NC LIVE members. * Develop asynchronous online tutorials. * Develop and deliver training sessions virtually and in person to library professionals. * Promote the instruction program to NC LIVE member libraries. * Report on key performance indicators like learner success, satisfaction and impact on usage. * Develop and update NC LIVE documentation. * Serve as liaison to an Advisory Committee (as needed).
Minimum Education/Experience: * ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent advanced degree.
Department Required Skills: * Significant experience working in or on behalf of libraries. * Significant library instruction experience, including classroom instruction * Knowledge of current and emerging trends in virtual instruction. * Experience teaching adult learners. * Experience providing exceptional service to a diverse clientele. * Ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively both as a team member and independently and to promote teamwork among colleagues. * Capacity to thrive in an exciting, ambiguous, future-oriented environment and to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities. * Excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills. * Able to communicate clearly and succinctly both verbally and in written reports/presentations * Valid driver license and ability to travel to NC LIVE member libraries across the State.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Experience creating asynchronous instructional content (e.g. tutorials, instructional videos, online courses, etc.). * Experience working in or for multiple types of libraries (e.g. academic, community college, public).
