Position Summary

In addition to typical faculty responsibilities, the chair position provides collaborative leadership in program development; coordinates promotion and tenure and other personnel issues; works with state and national accreditation agencies; represents the department at School and University levels; collaborates with other departments; identifies relevant opportunities for outreach activities with schools, community agencies, local colleges and universities; enhances recruitment of a diverse student body, Department faculty and staff; advances alumni relations; manages budgets and course schedules; leads strategic planning and program evaluation; and oversees various data-gathering reporting activities.



Minimum Qualifications

An earned doctorate in special education, birth to kindergarten (early childhood); and/or professions within the deaf community is required. Other requirements include: a broad knowledge of and demonstrated experience in one or more of Department-related fields; an in-depth understanding of various disability lenses, rights and laws; demonstrated competence in research and scholarship, teaching, securing external funding, and administration; and demonstrated commitment to access, equity and inclusion. Candidates with experience in one or both of the following areas will be viewed favorably: working with undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degree programs and distance education.



Preferred Qualifications

We seek a colleague with excellent collaboration and leadership skills who has a demonstrated record of success in research and scholarship, professional service, external funding, effective teaching and supervision, and administrative experience commensurate with appointment as an Associate or a Full Professor with tenure. This is a 10-month appointment.
