To perform work involving the maintenance, installation and repair of assigned vocational department equipment and/or facilities; to serve as a technical assistant to students and faculty; and to maintain inventory and coordinate laboratory operation.

Examples of Duties/Essential Functions
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collaborates with faculty to arrange and assist with laboratory assignments/teaching aids, exercises and exams.
Provides technical support when needed to students and faculty.
Coordinates, maintains, inspects, tests, and repairs laboratory equipment for assigned department(s).
Designs and maintains inventory control systems and orders tools and supplies; maintains records of supplies used.
Ensures safety and maintains general cleanliness in assigned areas including signage and assisting maintenance personnel.
Implements and maintains departmental health and safety policies and procedures to comply with District, federal, state and local health and safety and hazardous waste regulations.
Monitors and controls expenditures through the District€™s online system to ensure compliance within established budget.
Collaborates with faculty to submit purchase orders, complete budget transfers and journal entries, prepare cost estimates for budget recommendation, and submit justifications for budget items.
Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates student assistants.
Safely operates laboratory equipment.
Performs related duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Three (3) years of experience performing equipment operation, repair and maintenance in areas relevant to assigned department.
EDUCATION/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a high school diploma/GED or the equivalent, supplemented by college level coursework in relevant equipment technology program.
Possession of, or ability to acquire, a Class B driver€™s license with airbrake endorsements.
Minimum Qualification-Knowledge Of
Theory and techniques of operation and maintenance of department equipment and tools.
Equipment, materials and supplies used in assigned department.
Vendors and suppliers of equipment for assigned department.
Safe work practices, safe operation of equipment and safety precautions for the maintenance of equipment.
Methods and procedures of inventory control to order and stock parts.
Basic record-keeping and purchasing principles.
Basic mathematical principles.
Modern software applications (Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
Principles and practices of supervision and training.
Policies and procedures regarding laboratory and related facilities and systems.
Minimum Qualification-Ability To
Use, repair and maintain laboratory equipment, tools and machines for assigned department(s).
Serve students, staff and colleagues in a helpful, empathetic, professional manner.
Read and interpret electrical schematics.
Troubleshoot and maintain assigned equipment.
Maintain records and inventory of necessary supplies and order replenishments.
Perform heavy physical labor; lift and move equipment.
Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, mental or physical disability, and religious background of all students, faculty and staff, and with all individuals encountered in the performance of required duties.
1.Knowledge of safety and an ability to contribute to updating of existing OSHA Safety Plan for woodshops and supporting facilities. Ability to implement a safety plan and train faculty, staff and students to maintain compliance with safety program in shop environments.
2. Ability to operate and maintain a variety of carpentry tools including manual as well as power tools such as saws, drill presses, sanders, band saws, etc.
3. Ability to operate 3D printers and laser cutters and coordinate student access and use of machines. Ability to train faculty, staff and students in proper operation of equipment and develop standard operating procedures and regular maintenance schedules as needed.
4. Knowledge of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Routers such as ShopBots or similar models. Ability to supervise student access and operation of equipment and to perform basic CNC operations and routine maintenance procedures, tooling selection, and setup and fixturing procedures.
5. Ability to provide shop supervision, training and support for students€™ projects and laboratory activities in coordination with faculty using both manual and/or computer controlled tools. Support and instruction for users to learn various software and interface procedures for operating both CNC tools in the woodshop as well as laser cutters, 3D printers and support for general computer lab use.
6. Provide inventory and supply of materials such as lumber and plywood as well as expendables, including 3D printer and laser cutter supplies, tooling, and supplies for traditional wood shop tools, power tools and computer controlled tools.
7. Ability to supervise and assist students in computer lab and technical classroom spaces in the use of computers, equipment and software. Knowledge of various software packages such as AutoCAD, Sketchup, V-Carve Pro, Fusion 360 or similar programs, and the ability to assist students with software-related questions.
Special Instructions to Applicants
DVC is seeking a 24 hour per week technician to support its woodshop facility as well as digital fabrication labs which include 3D printers and laser cutters.
Applicants would be selected to provide assistance for the following proposed schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for support of classes and students with traditional woodworking machines and tools.
Friday to support CNC milling with the campus three axis and five axis woodshop routers.
Saturday to support the adjacent digital fabrication lab for design students utilizing laser cutters and 3D printers
Applicants should have a strong interest in €maker space€ learning environments, shop safety, traditional and computer controlled tools and related software.
NOTE: New employees will be placed at the first step which is $2,436.60 per month. Based on current salary placement guidelines, all step increases for which an employee becomes eligible shall take place on July 1st of each fiscal year. These increases will occur, on an annual basis, until the maximum step of $2,968.20 per month is reached on the salary schedule.
