Position Summary
Student Success Center. The Hispanic and Latino Advisor, working with institutional student success partners, provides academic advising, coaching, mentoring, and support to Hispanic and Latino students on the Armstrong Campus of Georgia Southern University.

Essential Functions

  • Advises, coaches, and provides academic support services to Hispanic/Latino students, as well as the general student population.
  • Assists Hispanic/Latino students in developing meaningful and appropriate educational and career plans, in support of the University's retention, graduation, and student success goals.
  • Collaborates with college-based academic advising teams.
  • Refers students, as appropriate, to campus resources and services.
  • Partners with the Office of the Provost, the Office of Admissions, the Academic Success Center, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and other offices to support initiatives and activities for Hispanic/Latino students.
  • Participates in orientation sessions, including presentations and registration.
  • Maintains student records, exercising discretion and confidentiality.
  • Communicates effectively, in person and electronically, with a wide variety of constituencies.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    Effective communication (verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; legally authorized to work in the United States; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.

    Master's Degree

    Preferred Experience
    Experience as an Academic Advisor or Academic Coach

    Salary Range $32,000
