Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field. Experience with biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology methods. Familiarity with muscle biology, muscle physiology and the process of myogenesis. Experience with muscle stem cell biology (good knowledge of relevant literature, isolation and culture of primary mouse myoblasts and muscle fibers). Experience with animal research. Experience with western blotting, ELISA, gene cloning, qPCR, protein expression and purification, cell culture, immunofluorescence and microscopy. Experience with muscle physiology methods (measurement of muscle force in vivo and/or ex vivo). Experience with statistical methods for biological sciences. Familiarity with muscular dystrophies.
Experience with bioinformatics methods to analyze ‘omics dataset. Record of achievement as evidenced by first author publications. Experience with animal research involving mice.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Associate will assist Dr. Dada Pisconti, the Principal Investigator, in the Department of Biochemistry & Cell Biology. The incumbent will conduct research and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.
- Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, design and conduct research experiments in the field of muscle biology.
- Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related field to analyze the collected data.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.
- Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
- Other duties as assigned, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings and co-supervision of technical staff and/or undergraduate students.
