The Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes has an opening for a full-time, University Staff (unclassified) IT Lead (IT Principal Professional) position.

Nature of Work:
Jobs in this career family develop, maintain, and support computer systems, software and networks. Functions include enterprise operations, distributed computing, academic computing, research computing, computer hardware and software management, computer networking, telecommunications, systems development, database administration, server administration, website management, programming, desktop support, and help desk operations.

Principal Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed at an advanced or expert level.

Position Emphasis:

The Barbara Davis Center (BDC) Information Technology Lead is responsible for acting as a subject matter expert in relation to all computer support systems for the center. This includes the purchasing, tracking, and maintenance of hardware and software systems, maintaining internal servers, overseeing collaborations with university and Children's Hospital Colorado (re. Epic software, telemedicine, outreach clinics) entities on IT matters, and supervising IT staff. The position will maintain up to date knowledge of information technology systems, update internal policies and procedures, and be able to recommend optimal solutions for BDC business needs.



Specific Duties:

  • Oversee all IT activities in the Barbara Davis Center (BDC).
  • Supervise IT staff in day-to-day operations including desktop services and application development; provide training, monitor performance, and conduct evaluations.
  • Purchase, track & maintain hardware & software:
    • Prepare educational purchasing quotes, place orders, and maintain purchasing records.
    • Maintain hardware inventory (computers, printers, monitors, mobile devices, & special equipment including video carts, projectors, conf. call units, etc.).
    • Set up computers, printers, & other hardware.
    • Install software, maintain updates, and install upgrades.
    • Manage Windows (SQL, print, web) & Mac (web, application) servers- resolve errors, setup users, perform monthly updates.
  • Oversee and conduct daily IT troubleshooting - this includes servers (clinical research, research division, pediatric, and adult clinics), desktop and mobile, printers, applications for Pediatric and Adult Clinics, Research Division, and Clinical Research.
  • Manage user accounts.
  • Map users with computer hardware/printers/software.
  • Set/revoke directory permissions to server shares.
  • Manage email distribution lists.
  • Ensure compliance with university and BDC policies and procedures for all IT equipment, servers and applications.
  • Serve as liaison with Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO):
    • Collect agenda items from BDC staff for monthly Epic super user meeting.
    • Run Epic super user meeting and prepare minutes.
    • Contact CHCO Epic staff with daily login/performance issues.
    • Organize meetings between BDC Executive Director and CHCO Epic staff to resolve outstanding issues.
    • Work with BDC Quality Improvement Lead on clinic QI initiatives.
    • Coordinate and troubleshoot telemedicine programs and initiatives.
    • Coordinate and troubleshoot outreach clinics.
  • Research, develop, make recommendations and implement strategic plans for IT at the BDC
  • Maintain and update the BDC website.
  • Meet with staff, technical, and non-technical groups to analyze their business needs and recommend information architecture solutions.
  • Represent the BDC with other external entities on IT matters.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position is commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience providing desktop support for both Mac and PC workstations, operating systems, as well as peripherals.

  • Sit and stand for long periods of time, frequently walk, and bend/stoop, as well as execute repetitive motions (walking, standing, bending, stooping and/or climbing).
  • Early hours may be required in order to meet department needs.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, management/computer information systems, computer engineering, information technology, or a related STEM field from an accredited institution.
  • Three years' of professional experience troubleshooting Mac and PC workstations, Windows and Macintosh operating systems, as well as printers, scanners, and other computer peripherals, digital signage, lecture capture, and video and web conferencing, to include various types of data and video connections.
  • Experience providing IT Support in healthcare and basic science research environment.
  • Experience working with EPIC Systems.
  • Experience working with Endnote and Adobe Suite.
  • Experience working with HTML/SharePoint for website maintenance.
  • Experience with computer repair and support.
  • Experience working with Windows 7 & 10 Professional versions; Office 2013 -2016; PCs, laptops, tablets, smart phones and other peripheral devices.
  • Experience working with Apple Macintosh and iOS and other related software.
  • Experience with server, desktop, mobile, and printer setup/configuration.
  • LAN Administrator experience
  • Networking experience (wired, wireless).
