The Office of Financial Reporting and Operations (FR&O) is currently seeking applications for an experienced Senior Debt Accountant to join their team. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Financial Operations (AVPFO), FR&O is responsible for financial reporting, tax compliance, contract management, payment card compliance, financial transaction processing, account reconciliations, accounts receivable, fixed asset accounting, investment and endowment accounting, and debt accounting. This office provides financial and administrative leadership, strong internal controls, and services of the highest quality to the University community. FR&O ensures that the official accounting records of the University are up-to-date and accurate, and assists faculty and staff with financial transaction processing, account reconciliations, and funds transfers.
The Senior Debt Accountant oversees accounting for the University's debt portfolio including pooled debt projects and administration of commercial paper program. This position prepares accurate and timely accounting entries and financial schedules, including footnotes for the annual financial report and related state schedules, in compliance with state and University guidelines, performs reconciliations between Oracle and the Department of Accounts' Cardinal system and resolves issues at month and year-end, as well as is responsible for payment of all debt related invoices. Additionally the Senior Debt Accountant assists Treasury in maximizing the use of debt funds and provides information and projections related to outstanding debt, debt needs and internal loan programs.
A Bachelor's Degree in accounting/auditing, finance, or related field is required. A Master's Degree in accounting/auditing is preferred. A minimum of two to five years of accounting, auditing, or finance experience including General Ledger maintenance, accounting/analytical work, working with auditors is required. Candidates must have experience in organizing and preparing financial data, conducting financial analyses, working closely with others to resolve complicated accounting issues, and communicating financial data and results to management. Experience with institutional level financial reporting at a college or university; experience with databases and manipulation of data contained within them is highly desirable.
Experience with Microsoft Office tools; especially Excel is required, and experience with Oracle e-business suite and/or Department of Accounts' Cardinal system is preferred.
Candidates must possess knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, and knowledge of fiscal and accounting functions and operations. Candidates must also possess the ability to apply and adapt accounting principles and methods to a variety of agency or institution fiscal needs and the ability to assemble, analyze, and prepare reports and statements covering complex financial data.
