Degree and Area of Specialization:
BA/BS required, M.S. preferred, in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
Relevant experience for this position includes at least 1 year, preferably 3 years, of experience of practical laboratory experience in organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, or chemical engineering. The successful candidate will possess strong technical proficiency in conducting chemical procedures, an ability to learn new methods efficiently, an ability to conduct standardized methods reproducibly, good writing and documentation capabilities, excellent interpersonal skills, a strong capacity for independent problem solving, and an ability to effectively coordinate research conducted in multiple research groups. Proficiency in basic computational and data management systems is also required.
License or certificate:
The Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC) is one of four Department of Energy centers established to conduct fundamental, genomics-based research on microbial and plant systems required to realize the national need for low-cost biofuels. The GLBRC is housed at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with collaborators at Michigan State University and other universities and national labs. The principal duties for this position will be divided into three areas, all components of generation, analysis, and coordination of standardized research materials in the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC).
