Extension Agent, 4-H

Primary Function of Organization Unit: North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University through educational programs, publications and events. Cooperative Extension agents deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens. Caldwell County is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Elevations in the county range from 900 feet at the Catawba River to 5,964 feet at Calloway Peak. This gives Caldwell County the distinction of having the largest elevation range of any county in North Carolina. There are seven incorporated municipalities in the county: Lenoir, Granite Falls, Hudson, Cajah Mountain, Gamewell, Sawmills, and Cedar Rock. The county's population is estimated at 81,930 by the US Census Bureau. The county covers 301,819 acres with 10% of the land in agricultural use and 40% in public forest land.
Essential Job Duties: The individual in the position will provide extraordinary leadership for the total 4-H program and will be responsible for program planning, development, delivery, evaluation and reporting. The current 4-H program is a mix of traditional 4-H clubs, project clubs, special interest youth programs, school enrichment, and seasonal camp opportunities.
Department Required Skills: A Bachelor's degree in child or youth development or related field. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Must enjoy working with youth of all ages, thorough understanding of volunteer management. Modern computer literacy is required. This includes ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheets, and email programs as well as the ability to utilize social media and multimedia. Also use of other forms of media for marketing program, such as newspaper articles and radio. Candidates should have excellent time and resource management skills, should be personable, and able to build professional networking coalitions.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: Two years experience in a youth development/education field.
