Position Summary:

The Institutional Services Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and monitoring custodial and minor maintenance activities in building facilities and supervising laundry room functions in an institutional setting. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Institutional Services Supervisor is responsible for performing custodial work assignments and other general work assignments in a professional and courteous manner, coordinating the work assignments for the assigned team, and ensuring assigned team members are trained to properly use chemicals, supplies and equipment as well as utilizing this use on a consistent basis.

As a supervisor, this position will motivate, train and interact with the individuals to ensure assigned work areas are cleaned, maintained and organized on a daily basis, maintain an accurate inventory of building supplies and process a requisition to replenish supplies when needed, as well as records regarding maintenance needs and safety deficiencies in assigned areas, request and conduct safety procedural training for members of your assigned team, inspect assigned work areas to ensure the correct level of cleanliness is maintained and correct areas that fail to meet the expected cleaning standard, and generate work orders for building and equipment maintenance and other areas of need.

In addition, the employee in this position should develop computer skills in Banner System, FAMIS, and internet usage, monitor maintenance and grounds needs and assure that proper reporting procedures are followed, follow oral and/or written instructions while work independently without close supervision, and wear the assigned uniform as designated in the uniform policy.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of custodial and maintenance practices and techniques, materials and equipment used in custodial and maintenance work, and the operation and maintenance requirements of commercial laundry equipment.

Ability to maintain adequate supplies and inventory records, prepare written documents, conduct inspections to determine compliance with standards, and supervise staff of subordinate supervisors, custodial workers and semi-skilled maintenance repairmen.

General Days/Hours:

6:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Availability to work after hours, weekends, or holidays as requested


This position is considered Essential Personnel in Facilities Management and Candidate must possess a valid Drivers License.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a High School Diploma.

Two (2) years of vocational training and/or experience in housekeeping.

Other job related Education and/or Experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval or the qualifications review committee.
