Minimum Education/Experience: ALA-accredited master's degree or international equivalent; experience in instruction; experience with reference or public services; demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment; excellent oral and written communication skills and an ability to effectively interact with audiences of diverse backgrounds.

Job Duties: Joyner Library seeks a knowledgeable, creative and service-oriented instruction librarian. Reporting to the North Carolina Librarian, the Outreach and Instruction Librarian will serve as a member of a team of librarians and staff committed to effectively managing Joyner Library's growing special collections. This position participates in the Special Collections Division's public service activities, including instruction, reference, and social media services, with some weekend and evening work as required. The position coordinates outreach and instruction activities, including the development of events and exhibits for campus and community audiences, news features and social media for the entire Special Collections Division. This librarian works as a liaison with other library groups involved in outreach, marketing, and exhibits. This position oversees the development of the North Carolina Periodicals Index and promotes access to regional resources. The Outreach and Instruction Librarian helps to develop metadata and improve the effectiveness of the index by working with Special Collections Cataloging and Application and Digital Services. Joyner Library Special Collections include the Verona Joyner Langford North Carolina Collection, University Archives, and Manuscripts and Rare Books. A staff of 14 FTE help collect, arrange, promote and provide access to a wide range of primary source materials. Collection strengths include North Carolina, American and maritime history, exploration, civil rights, communism, the Civil War, the Second World War, Southern literature and science fiction.
