Receive, review, and process financial aid requests, documents, and notices from departments, colleges, and students; may include database data entry and verification and mathematical calculations. Provide consultation to internal and external constituents regarding basic financial aid application completion and award process inquiries. Update, correct, or cancel student financial aid award accounts; responsible for the creation, tracking and maintenance of student financial aid files (electronic and hardcopy). Review and assist with the reconciliation of award accounts and the dissemination of award notices. Create and distribute financial aid award reports to various internal and external constituents or agencies for review.
Department Specific Essential Job Functions
Processes student aid information, needs analysis, packaging, verifications, loan processing, and completion of required reports.
Provides person to person and telephone guidance to parents, students, and prospective students in their pursuit of financial assistance.
Shares in the professional review of over 15,000 financial aid applications relative to state, federal assistance, as well as local and national scholarships, in terms of determining eligibility for aid programs.
Assists students, faculty and staff on walk-in basis, providing such assistance as application completion, review of academic progress, overaward resolutions, financial aid holds, withdrawal recalculations of eligibility, loan counseling, and student eligibility determinations.
Reviews and reconciles daily/weekly financial aid reports to insure compliance of federal guidelines.
Works directly with the Data Entry & Loan Processors in validating aid applications or resolving loan issues.
Responds to student and parent inquiries regarding technical financial aid information.
Participates and/or coordinates Financial Aid Seminars.
C onducts need analysis tests to determine the eligibility and financial need of the student. Works with external agencies providing information concerning eligibility.
Provide area leadership for Financial Aid services in the One Stop area. Act as connecting point between One Stop services and the Assistant Director of Financial Aid.
Maintain daily assignment sheets and ensure coverage for One Stop service areas.
Act as "next-tier" resource for student Financial Aid informational needs.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requires a university degree in related field plus 6+ years of relevant experience or 10+ years of equivalent work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts. Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.
Three years of Financial Aid Counseling experience.
Excellent communications skills. Ability to adapt to changing technology. Attention to detail and accuracy is essential.
Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
