Full/Part Time: Full-Time
Supervises Irrigation Crew and installs, repairs, and troubleshoots manual and computerized underground lawn sprinkler systems.
Assigns, inspects, and supervises the work of Irrigation Technicians. Initiates corrective action to secure satisfactory standards and timely project completion. Plans and develops work schedules, equipment usage schedules, and procedures for equipment maintenance. Provides daily work assignments for members of the work unit. Provides on the job training. Inspects work performed by members of the work unit. Evaluates employee performance and counsels employees as needed regarding job performance. Approves leave requests and certifies time worked for members of the work unit. Repairs and inspects lines, valves, and sprinklers on underground lawn sprinkler systems. Installs, maintains, and repairs drip on sprinkler system. Removes old sprinkler systems and recovers reusable equipment.
Sets and maintains times on computer and electronic valve clocks; troubleshoots computerized electronic systems, irrigation controllers, solenoid valves, and heads of all types. Performs general grounds keeping maintenance tasks around buildings and on campus. This includes watering trees, shrubs, groundcovers, and annuals. Trims, mows, edges, rakes, and removes debris. Responsible for small landscape renovation projects.
Coordinates with appropriate departments and/or outside contractors in the installation and repair of underground lawn sprinkler systems. Operates tractors, trenches, and other equipment needed to install and repair sprinkler lines. Drives University vehicle(s) as necessary. May perform other general grounds duties as directed by the Assistant Director.
High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience related to the duties of this position.
(Note: Vocational/technical training in a related area may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.)
Experience or knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.
Experience or knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.
Experience or knowledge of the practices and the ability to perform skilled carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other related trades work.
Experience with landscaping and groundskeeping techniques.
A valid State of Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain upon hire.
This is an USPS (University Support Personnel System) position.
