The Department of Political Science and International Studies in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences invites applications and nominations for the position of Lecturer of International Studies. This position will be located on the Statesboro campus, but may require teaching on the other campuses.

Position Description
Reporting to the Department Chair, the Lecturer of International Studies position requires teaching, and some limited service responsibilities as well as a terminal degree. The Lecturer will assume a 4-4 teaching load in the thriving Department of Political Science and International Studies, which features two interdisciplinary majors (International Studies and International Trade) in addition to Political Science. Teaching assignments may include Introduction to International Studies, Research Methods in International Studies, and upper-division courses in the Instructor's areas of expertise. The position is a 9-month, non-tenure track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in International Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Geography, or Economics with documented evidence of a global perspective completed by August 1, 2019
  • University-level teaching experience in International Studies or related disciplines, backed by evidence
  • Evidence of effective communication skills (in English)
  • Evidence of commitment to international education with regard to curricular development, student mentoring, and experience or interest in the development of study abroad programs
  • Regional specialization that complements the department's existing strengths in Latin America, Caribbean, and the Middle East
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • University-level successful experience in leading study abroad courses in International Studies or related disciplines, backed by evidence
  • Documented teaching experience in world cultures, global issues, economic and political development
  • Specialization in economic or political development or other humanitarian or development-oriented field of interest, such as human security and sustainability
  • Global focus outside of mainstream “International Relations” scholarship
  • Evidence of web-based teaching experience
  • Ability to teach and guide undergraduate students in successful pursuit of careers in international studies
  • Experience working with a diverse student body
  • Evidence of collegiality and ability to work on a team on projects involving international education

    Screening of applications begins December 1, 2018, and continues until the position is filled. The preferred position starting date is August 1, 2019.
