DATE OF APPOINTMENT: August 16, 2019 (Classes begin August 21, 2019)

JOB DESCRIPTION: A full-time, nine-month tenure-track appointment. The primary assignment includes (a) teaching music therapy courses, (b) facilitating and supervising music therapy clinical fieldwork and internships, (c) serving as liaison with internship site supervisors, (d) contributing to the formation of a Master’s degree program in music therapy with future teaching, recruiting, and advising responsibilities at the graduate level, and (e) developing graduate curriculum and advancement of the graduate program. Participation in School of Music activities, attracting and retaining students, and faculty governance is required. The candidate will be expected to maintain a professional profile through publication, presentation, scholarship, and/or research/creative activity. Additional teaching responsibilities may be assigned according to the needs of the School of Music and the abilities and interests of the candidate. Active participation in professional organizations in the field is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS (must be met by the time of appointment): The successful candidate must have earned a Ph.D. in Music Therapy or related field. The School of Music seeks candidates who have a commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will (a) have at least 2 years teaching experience at the collegiate level, (b) meet all requirements for Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Faculty as stipulated in the AMTA Standards for Education and Clinical Training, (c) have Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC), and (d) have a minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a music therapist. An interest in and ability to advocate effectively for the music therapy profession is expected. The School of Music seeks a candidate who will demonstrate exemplary communication skills, collegiality, and the ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the University. In accordance with West Virginia University’s Procedures for Faculty Appointment, Annual Evaluation, Promotion, and Tenure, to be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor, the successful candidate must be an accomplished university-level educator and a nationally-recognized researcher with an established publication and presentation record.
