The Department of Neurology has an opening for a full-time, University Staff (unclassified) Center Administrator (Business Services Program Manager) position.

The School of Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking applications for a Center Administrator. This full-time, University Staff (unclassified) position will work for the Center for Neuroscience (CNS). The CNS seeks to promote collaborative interactions among the AMC neuroscience community, especially ones that involve collaboration between basic and clinical scientists. The Center Administrator has authority over the business affairs, funds and resources of the CNS. This individual will be responsible for organizing and administering the financial duties associated with the Center's research core facilities, several NIH and other extramural grants (e.g., R25, P30), center symposia/conferences, an annual Rocky Mountain Regional Neuroscience Group (RMRNG) meeting, and a pilot grant program. Nature of Work:
The Center Administrator is an integral member of the CNS and a part of the Center's Management Team. This role is responsible for assisting the CNS Director achieve the vision for the CNS and will work directly with the CNS Co-Directors to administer all operational aspects of the CNS, with a primary focus on the development and management of the budget and financials. This role is responsible for the day-to-day management of Center administrative duties, with a major focus on grants management, procurement and purchasing. Additional responsibilities, include: CNS grant preparation, submission, and management; financial management of CNS core facilities; organizing CNS functions such as symposia and research retreats; event planning; Human Resources; as well as interacting with and shepherding undergraduate summer students in an NIH-funded research program.

This position is charged with all budgetary and fiscal management including budget preparation, pre- and post- grant award monitoring and ensuring all activities and operations fall within the monetary guides set forth. The person in this position will work with the CNS Director to establish these guides and budgets. This person is charged with establishing that all personnel policies are adhered to, and is involved in hiring, pay procedures, space and operational procedures. He/she serves as the liaison between the CNS and the AMC neuroscience community.

The Center Administrator should proactively anticipate issues or problems, suggesting a range of options with an analysis of advantages and disadvantages to assist the Director with recommended solutions. This position requires a large degree of independence. Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills are a must as he/she will regularly interact with the center faculty and staff. This position will be responsible for the direct supervision of CNS professional research assistants and postdoctoral fellows.

Examples of Work Performed:

Financial Management:

  • Direct the preparation of annual CNS budgets and oversee their execution through the year.
  • Manage the current year CNS budgets, forecast budget vs. actual spending and reconcile expenses to the general ledger.
  • Administer existing extramural grants (P30, R25).
  • Design CNS financial reports for a variety of funding sources.
  • Monitor monthly, quarterly and year-to-date CNS financial reports
  • Oversee and direct fiscal activity including development and management of operating and capital budgets, administration of grants and contracts, payroll administration, purchasing, travel and inventory management.
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls and fiduciary stewardship, determine areas vulnerable from an audit perspective and develop plans/recommendation to strengthen those areas.
  • Perform a monthly review of gift and other non-grant funds and communicate on a regular basis to CNS faculty members.

Grant and Contract Management:
  • Manage CNS grant activity and financials and communicate on a regular basis to principal investigators.
  • Collaborate with key faculty on budgeting for new programs and initiatives that could eventually be a new source of revenue for the CNS group.

Planning, Development and Analysis:
  • Direct planning activities for the CNS, including long-range and short-range business and strategic planning.
  • Manage all webspace responsibilities for spaces in use by the designated sub-specialty groups for this position.

Operations and Procurement:
  • Oversee CNS purchasing activities including delegation of purchasing responsibilities and adherence to purchasing policy, acquisition of capital equipment items and major capital building/renovation, and negotiation of leases.

Event Planning:
  • Participate in fund raising activities, which may include grant writing, philanthropic events and programs, and coordination of volunteer activity, including volunteer faculty.

Public Relations:
  • Represent the CNS in a professional and courteous manner to visitors, clients, media, and the public.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position has been established at $65,000 - $85,000 and is commemorate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, health care management or closely related field.
  • Personnel management experience.
  • Four (4) years of experience managing extramural grants both pre- and post-award.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in accounting, business administration, health care management or closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience forecasting, monitoring, and reconciling budgets, financial reports, data and information.
  • Experience working with PeopleSoft HRMS/HCM/Finance.
  • Professional level management experience within a complex health related research setting with a preference for an environment like that at the Anschutz Medical Campus.
