Job Summary:

This position serves as the primary executive administrative support for the Department Chair, Department of Radiology, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine & Public Health (UW SMPH). The department is composed of 94 physician radiologists, 6 PhD faculty, 27 Fellows, 32 resident physicians, 6 advanced practice providers, and a growing number of staff members, who are committed to excellence in patient care, medical imaging research, and education. The successful candidate will work with a world-renowned team that seeks to impact the future of health care.

Under the general direction of the Sr. Administrative Program Specialist, the Program Assistant-Confidential supports the academic, clinical and administrative duties of the Chair of the Department of Radiology. This includes coordinating complex daily clinical, academic, administrative and research activities of the Chair. The responsibilities require considerable independence in anticipating, planning, decision making and action. The individual will utilize a considerable amount of independent initiative and judgment, exercising a high level of administrative problem solving and analytic ability. Duties include providing administrative program support under the direction of the Chair of Radiology and the Department Administrator and coordinating the Department Chair's practice activities, such as scheduling meetings, answering inquiries, screening and prioritizing electronic communications, greeting visitors, preparing correspondence and other documents, as well as facilitating communication with other clinical department chairs, faculty, staff, advisors, students, deans, and administrators. The assistant will coordinate and schedule faculty candidate visits and interview schedules. The incumbent will interact with many administrative units in the UW Health (UWH), UW School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH), UnityPoint-Meriter, international and national organizations. This position tracks, prioritizes, organizes, and sees to completion multiple ongoing projects. This position requires the ability to manage competing priorities as well as the ability to work independently in dealing with the diverse elements of health care in an academic medical center. Effective, accurate and timely verbal and written communication skills are necessary with a variety of people, including faculty, UWH, UWSMPH and other leaders to relay information for the Chair.
