I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

Office of the Deputy Provost for Academic Affairs, along with the Provost, is responsible for integrating the academic experience with student life beyond the classroom through all of the offices and departments under the Office of the Provost. This Office provides oversight for the academic administrative functions of the university, and is also responsible for the design, management, and use of academic space on all campuses, as well as oversees the university's upcoming reaccreditation with the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

Reporting to the Deputy Provost for Academic Affairs, the Associate Provost for Special Programs & the Mount Vernon Academic Experience the incumbent is responsible for the following:

  • Oversees the Undergraduate Honors Fellowships.
  • Oversees the Women's Leadership Program.
  • Oversees the Mount Vernon Society of Fellows. This includes managing the post-doctoral fellows and affiliated faculty.
  • Coordinates with Dean of Residential Engagement on the Mount Vernon Campus
  • Oversees the Phi Beta Kappa program.

This position will be held by a tenured member of the GW faculty and is based at GW's Mount Vernon Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 10 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree in a relevant area of study plus 8 years of relevant professional experience. Relevant experience must include at least 4 years of senior leadership/executive level experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
  • Applicants must be tenured members of the GW faculty and hold a terminal degree. Tenure requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Relevant experience must include at least 4 years of senior leadership/executive level experience, which could consist of teaching at the collegiate level.
