The Research Methods Lab (RML) at Princeton University runs concurrently with Policy Research Seminar courses that are designed to help students prepare for their senior theses. RML reinforces the lessons and themes taught in the seminars by Princeton faculty. It offers students extensive instruction in research design in the social sciences. The combined goal of RML and the policy research seminars is to facilitate an in-depth exploration of a policy topic using social science research methods. RML and the seminars aim to provide students with the tools to write their junior capstone papers and senior theses. The Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University seeks one or more part-time Lecturers to teach and/or co-teach research methods labs during the 2018-2019 academic year. Teaching responsibilities will include: Offering three 90-minute lectures (joint with co-instructor) on approaches to research design in the social sciences and five 90-minute lectures on either quantitative or qualitative methods. Preparing a syllabus defining topics and assigned readings in research design and methods in social science research. The syllabus should provide clear deadlines for assignments and indicate where reading materials are available. Preparing assignments to build student understanding of methodological concepts taught in class. Holding weekly office hours to consult with students about lecture materials, assignments, and methodology questions that arise in context of their junior paper research. Providing extensive feedback and grades on assignments. Facilitating in-class labs to reinforce and enrich lecture materials. Helping to coordinate lab activities, guest speakers and presentations. In partnership with faculty seminar instructors, answering questions and offering feedback on junior papers. Advanced degree required; Ph.D. preferred.
