Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Department of Computer Science is an academic teaching and research department in the College of Engineering. It is a large and complex unit that encompasses research intensive, teaching intensive and professional activities. It is one of the largest such departments in the nation by the number of faculty and students, and its total budget and size are comparable to, or larger than, a number of NC State University colleges and divisions.
Essential Job Duties: Participation in both undergraduate and graduate instruction will be expected. Ability to attract external funding for and conduct research program supportive of the Department's thrust areas (Software Engineering, Privacy, Security, Systems, Networking, Data Driven Sciences, Geospatial Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms, Graphics, Games) on a continuing basis. Direct graduate student research in the different areas of Computer Science. While the department expects to hire at the Assistant Professor level, candidates with exceptional research records of all levels are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Education/Experience: Requires doctor's degree, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.
Department Required Skills: - Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field - Candidates should possess excellent teaching skills and an ability to attract external funding for and conduct research programs supportive of the Department's thrust areas (Software Engineering, Privacy, Security, Systems, Networking, Data Driven Sciences, Geospatial Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms, Graphics, Games). - Excellent verbal and writing skills are required.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - Exceptional candidates in all areas of Computer Science will be considered, but of particular interest are candidates specializing in the areas of theoretical computer science. - Successful candidates must have a strong commitment to academic and research excellence, and an outstanding research record commensurate with the expectations of a major research university.
