General Summary of Position:

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Development, the Director of Corporate Engagement for the Manning School of Business will manage a portfolio of approximately 150-200 corporate/corporate leader prospects, the position will work closely with the AVC and the Dean of the Manning School to identify strategies and processes for the successful cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of key corporate prospects and donors. The position will focus on developing and furthering relationships with companies that are eager to partner with the Manning School. The position will work with the Senior Director of Development for the school, as well as university leaders such as deans and faculty members, and others senior leaders on priorities, strategy and cultivation activities. The Director will be part of a dedicated team that is working together on a highly successful capital campaign for UMass Lowell.

  1. Conduct 12-15 face-to-face prospect meetings per month for the purpose of identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. Be conversant in planned giving opportunities and engage donors in conversations about planned giving as necessary. Work with corporate leaders to gain their financial support for the school.
  2. Manage a portfolio of approximately 150-200 corporate/corporate leader prospects capable of making a 5-7 figure gift to the University. Develop and execute best practice fundraising strategies and long range plans for the successful identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of the portfolio group.
  3. Determine donor interest and direct them toward university/college priorities. Recommend suitable giving opportunities and prepare major gift/planned giving/annual leadership gift proposals for key initiatives.
  4. Work with other members of the Advancement team to appropriately engage key prospects in advancement activities. Participate as an active member of the prospect management process in developing strategies for all major gifts prospects.
  5. Ensure the university realizes its annual cash fundraising goals through consistent and strategic solicitation efforts. Provide fundraising support to the deans, directors and faculty across campus to prioritize fundraising needs and build strong partnerships with faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Baccalaureate or higher degree
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in development, volunteer management and program development

Additional Considerations:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of development practices and principles and a track record of success in managing major gift prospects and in closing gifts in at least the five and six-figure range
  • Demonstrated skill to work within a complex environment with strong capabilities in planning, time management, and organizing
  • A high degree of energy, creativity, initiative, discretion and commitment to customer service
  • An entrepreneurial spirit
  • Excellent oral and written skills. Ability to document meetings, write briefings, and proposals
  • Willingness and strong ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills as well as sophistication, maturity in social and professional settings
  • Flexibility to travel, largely on a regional basis. Occasional weekend and evening work will be necessary, as well as national travel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferably in higher education
