The Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) for Inclusion and Diversity (OID) at Virginia Tech will be the senior leader within OID charged with informing, engaging, partnering with, and securing financial support from a diverse spectrum of alumni, friends, organizations, and corporations. The CAO will lead fundraising, volunteer cultivation, corporate philanthropic support, communications, marketing, and social media. The CAO will formulate and implement a strategic advancement plan, including appropriate staffing levels, to complement the strategic plans of the Office of Inclusion and Diversity and the University.

Reports jointly to the Vice President for Strategic Affairs/Vice Provost for Inclusion and Diversity and the Senior Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations.

Responsible for the planning and implementation of an integrated approach to development, communications and engagement programs that maximizes support for inclusion and diversity at Virginia Tech. Serve as chief development officer for, and manager of, the inclusion and diversity advancement program with responsibility for securing private and, corporate philanthropic support. Meet or exceed established goals and targets, including:

  • Cultivate, develop and maintain a portfolio of approximately 100 prospects.
  • Have a typical solicitation range of $5,000 to $250,000.
  • Close $250,000 per year using a three-year rolling average.
  • Close on average 10–13 gifts per fiscal year.
  • Plan and execute 6–12 engagement programs per year specifically targeting alumni from traditionally under-represented backgrounds and multicultural alumni communities.
  • Provide stewardship to one or more diversity-related alumni and corporate / industry advisory boards.
  • Plan and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy designed to promote and support inclusion and diversity endeavors.
  • Travel, on average, six to ten days per month to cultivate, solicit, steward, and identify prospects.
