Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Physical Education/Teacher Education
The College of Health Professions invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor/Associate Professor position in the Physical Education/Teacher Education Program in the Department of Kinesiology beginning August 2019. Candidates who wish to be considered for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor must meet all requirements for promotion to the Associate Professor rank at Towson University.
Doctoral degree in Physical Education/Teacher Education or related area. Applicants who are ABD are encouraged to apply but appointment will be at the instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2019. Three or more years of experience teaching physical education at the K-12 level is required. Evidence of scholarship agenda focused in an area related to Physical Education/Teacher Education is required. Candidates who can demonstrate scholarship outcomes with potential for external funding are preferred. Candidates must have the training and expertise to teach courses in adapted physical education and/or health education. Preference given to candidates with experience and skills related to the accreditation process and/or internship supervision responsibilities. An established record of excellent teaching in higher education will be given preference. Candidates wishing to be considered for the rank of associate professor should have 6 years experience teaching in higher education or comparable qualifications, and demonstrate a clear line of scholarship with outcomes. Experience in interdisciplinary teaching, demonstrated success in working with diverse populations and students, and experience with a variety of teaching methods is preferred.
Primary responsibilities include: 1) TEACHING – provide high quality instruction in a variety of physical education/teacher education courses, advise and mentor students as they matriculate through the program and prepare to enter the profession; 2) SCHOLARSHIP – development/continuation of a focused area of scholarship that includes refereed publications, professional presentations, external funding, and involvement in scholarly projects with faculty and students; 3) SERVICE – active service participation at the Department, College, University, Profession and community levels.
The Department of Kinesiology, located within the College of Health Professions, has 33 full-time faculty and more than 1,400 students across the Physical Education/Teacher Education, Athletic Training, Sport Management, and Exercise Science undergraduate programs. The Physical Education/Teacher Education has approximately 120 majors. The Department is also responsible for oversight of the College of Health Professions Institute for Well-Being’s Wellness Center that serves over 300 members each year with its programs that support student education and community outreach. In addition, the Department has a strong, positive relationship with the University’s Division of Athletics.
