Responsibilities

The College of Human Sciences (CHS) Board of Governors (BoG) is in need of a law clerk to assist in performing research of filed and pending litigation asserting claims around certain matters from which CHS may benefit including, but not limited to, products liability and false and deceptive advertising. The ideal law clerk would be a law student in their second year of study, who is a self-starter and has proven skills in legal research, drafting, and communication. The law clerk would work closely with the BoG in identifying potential outreach opportunities to raise awareness and funding for CHS.

- Targeted research on pending litigation in designated jurisdictions, in collaboration with BoG.
- Prepare case summaries as appropriate for BoG review.
- Assist BoG in communicating with legal counsel for identified cases, regarding CHS and its mission.
- Create schedules for outreach and follow ups.
- Meet as needed with BoG representatives to discuss progress.

Qualifications

Willingness to conduct extensive research, both electronically and otherwise.

Strong knowledge of and experience with Westlaw and/or Lexis research tools and existing access.

Flexible schedule and commitment to regular attendance/updates.

Excellent communication and document management skills.

Member of Law Journal or Moot Court preferred.

Summer 2019 presence in Jacksonville, FL area preferred.

Anticipated Salary Range

Hourly wage $10 - $12 an hour
