Posting Summary:
University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA seeks a full-time Research Computing System Engineer. The position will administer all aspects of a distributed computer system supporting a specified functional area of university operations, including planning and coordinating system utilization, system upgrades, system security, and performing growth analysis and capacity planning. Requires a Bachelor's Degree or foreign equivalent in Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline. Also requires each of the following: one (1) year of experience working with high performance computing systems in an academic research-environment; two (2) years of experience working with Linux system administration with a working knowledge of networking concepts and practices; Two (2) of experience working with virtualized/cloud/containerized environments including Vmware, OpenStack, or Docker; two (2) years of experience working with configuration management tools including Puppet or Ansible; two (2) years of experience working with Windows Server Administration; two (2) years of experience working with web and database software including Drupal, and SQL; two (2) years of experience working with Cisco or Juniper network devices and network tools including Namp, Tcpdump, and Wireshark; and two (2) years of experience working with Linux server hardening and security assessment.
