Associate Director for MMS Career Services The Duke MBA Career Management Center (CMC) The Fuqua School of Business The Associate Director provides leadership and assumes responsibility for career services provided to Duke Master of Management Science (MMS) students. In this capacity, s/he ensures a comprehensive program of workshops, counseling, recruiting, and other services that prepares them to succeed in the job market. The incumbent also works to build the MMS program's brand in the employment marketplace. To achieve this objective, the incumbent will create and implement a comprehensive strategy to expand the Duke MMS recruiting portfolio, develop new and existing recruiting partnerships, and execute marketing initiatives. The Associate Director plays a key role in ensuring consistency with and maximizing efficiencies between the career services offerings of the MMS, MQM and MBA programs. Fundamental to success in this role will be proactive information sharing, collaboration, and communication across the CMC team and within Fuqua. The incumbent also has ownership for 1 - 2 collateral assignments that add value beyond the immediate area of responsibility and contribute to the CMC's and the MMS/MQM program's broader mission and objectives. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Career Management and works closely with the CMC team and MMS/MQM program staff.

Qualifications
Graduate degree, with an MBA or a Masters in Counseling strongly preferred.
2 years corporate recruiting and/or career services experience recommended.

Departmenal preferences
Strong portfolio of communication skills including presentation skills with previous experience developing and presenting career development workshops and programs.
Interaction with corporate recruiters, alumni, staff, and students is integral to the position, so strong interpersonal and team skills are essential.
Ability to conceptualize and implement business development and marketing programs at both a strategic and tactical level.
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex problems and their implications within the parameters of Duke University and The Fuqua School's core values, practices, and policies and to apply those parameters to meet the needs of multiple stakeholders in resolving problems.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated initiative to take on special projects.
Sharp stakeholder focus (in this case, the current or prospective employer and the MMS student).
Must be very comfortable in a highly computerized environment, including database administration, Internet research, e-mail and other tools.
Some travel may be required to attend relevant conferences and corporate events and to meet with current or prospective employers.

Principal duties and responsibilities

Program and resource development
Assess needs, plan, deliver, and evaluate a comprehensive program of career development and job search workshops for MMS students
Programs must be creatively designed and well-taught with the capacity to not only teach students about these subjects conceptually, but also to change their job search behaviors in a substantive, sustainable manner. Topics include, but are not limited to:
o Self-assessment o Job search strategy
o Creating a career marketing plan
o Networking
o Branding statement
o Resumes
o Cover letters & correspondence
o Interviewing
o Job offer evaluation & negotiation
Identify keynote speakers and panelists who complement key CMC messages, help students' build critical skills, and lend credibility to our programming.
Identify resources relevant to the MMS job search and work to make those resources available to our students.

Career coaching and counseling
Advise students in person, over the phone, and via email on both an appointment and walk-up basis. Vary counseling style according to student's individual needs and concerns. Counseling may include providing assistance and support to:
o Identify students' career interests through self-assessment;
o Develop a job search strategy reflective of the student's interests, skills, and goals;
o Review and polish resumes, cover letters, and other correspondence;
o Conduct mock interviews and provide feedback to improve interview techniques;
o Decide between employment offers, considering short and long-term career goals
o Develop a strategy to negotiate an employment offer.
Develop deep expertise about MMS students and opportunities to effectively address the unique components of the job search in various job functions and industries. Stay current on recruiting practices through interaction with employers and attendance at relevant conferences or seminars to optimize advice. Corporate marketing and outreach
Interact extensively with company recruiters on campus to deepen relationships, to stay current on business issues, and to assess our students' performance in the recruiting process.
Meet with company recruiters and Duke alumni to discuss recruiting strategies and hiring needs, thereby improving companies' recruiting efforts and deepening relationships. Coach recruiters on trends in student interests, compensation packages, and perceptions of recruiting practices.
Share information gained through company outreach with students to educate them about MMS recruiting, specific companies, and job market trends.
Work closely with the employer services team to align student and employer needs and to maximize the effectiveness of the on-campus recruiting process. Administrative and collateral responsibilities
Represent the Duke the Career Management Center to prospective students, alumni, other offices within the university, corporate recruiters, and other stakeholders.
Interpret recruiting policies for students at both the group and individual levels and enforce those policies to protect the Duke MMS brand. Decide upon and communicate penalties for violating those policies as appropriate.
Contribute to effective, integrated, and well-timed messaging by the CMC through a variety of communication media - in person, at group sessions, via email, through the Web, etc.
Design, plan, and implement appropriate opportunities for students to provide feedback on CMC programs, workshops, and services. Analyze and interpret results to identify accomplishments and improvement opportunities. Communicate resulting suggestions and actions, as appropriate, to other CMC staff and students.
