Department Overview
The Department resides within the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences and has a faculty of 15 with approximately 550 majors in dance and theatre combined.

The Department offers two BA degrees in dance and four BA degrees in theatre. We produce a full season of 6-7 productions and laboratory events choreographed/directed by guest artists, faculty or students.

The Department's activities actually occur in two sites that are blocks across campus from each other. The dance programs hold their classes and rehearsals in the DATH Building. Uniquely, the DATH Building has four large movement studios with spring and raised-floating, wood floors.

The theatre program activities primarily occur in the Radio, Television, and Performing Arts Building renovated in 2000.

The Department also maintains the University Theater (409-seat proscenium theatre) and the Studio Theater (160-seat black box), and the technical facilities to support the annual season, including a well-equipped costume and scenic shop, and adequate storage.

Job Description
The Dance & Theatre Department at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Performing Arts Tech - 9mth to join our team, Scene Shop Supervisor for Department of Dance and Theatre at UNT. The candidate will work under the supervision of the Technical Director and provide technical support for 6-8 productions each academic year. Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

* Supervise lab students and student employees.
* Teaches and enforces safety guidelines, shop equipment maintenance, and installation/removal of scenery.
* Purchase items and maintain records for the scene shop, and other duties as assigned.
* Demonstrate an expertise in scenic construction, wood working, metals, welding and theatrical rigging.
* Must have the ability to interpret working drawings, build and install scenery.
* Demonstrate computer skills with: Excel, Word and AutoCad drafting in 2D/3D.
* Candidate must be able to move/lift heavy materials and scenery.
* Must be able to work at heights on ladders, genie lifts, catwalks, and theatre grid.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in related field and two years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* Have background in stagecraft, an understanding of historic periods and styles, knowledge in safe use of shop power tools, ability to read designer and construction drawings.
* Follow directions and adhere to department and shop safety rules and regulations.
* BA in theater and three years of practical professional experience.
