Radiological Sciences Section Chief

Job Summary
The Department of Radiology has an opening for a full-time faculty member to serve as chief in Radiological Sciences Division. Faculty rank will be determined based on applicants current experience and rank.


The successful recruit will be required to lead our clinical medical physics practice. Responsibilities include managing the staff and workload of the division, including hiring, supervision, mentorship, performance assessment and discipline duties. Expectations also include division leadership in promotion of excellence in the departments primary missions: education, research, and service. The Radiological Sciences Division provides medical physics services in X-ray, Fluoroscopy, CT, Mammography, Ultrasound, MRI and Nuclear Medicine at University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) and its affiliates as well collaborates with physicists in the UCHealth system. Regulatory duties include acceptance testing, maintenance of Colorado state registration, and ACR and Joint Commission (TJC) certification. UCH is an ACR Diagnostic Center of Excellence and service commensurate with this designation is expected. The division also participates in hospital committees, in staff, fellow, resident, graduate and medical school education and in clinical research activities.


Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should have a graduate degree in medical physics or a related field. They should be certified in Diagnostic or Nuclear Medical Physics by the ABR (or comparable certification) and have practiced for a minimum of 5 years.

Required Competencies

Competency is required in the performance of general medical physics. The applicant should have experience in supervision and mentorship of medical physicists in an academic clinical environment. The applicant should have a history of successful project management, organization and record keeping skills as well as of working successfully in interactive teams that include clinicians, hospital staff and administrators. In addition, the applicant should have experience in teaching at the graduate level and a history of peer reviewed publications.

Preferred Qualifications

Eligibility to become a registered medical physicist in the State of Colorado is desired. Active leadership on clinical committees and participation in professional society activities is desired. Teaching experience in an academic hospital setting is desired. A demonstrated research focus in an area of diagnostic radiology is desired.
