The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work in the area of experimental particle physics on the CMS experiment at the LHC. The CMS group (Cox, Hirosky, Neu) has a wide range of physics interests, including Higgs boson studies, SM measurements, and searches for SUSY and other exotic forms of matter. Our detector efforts have focused on the CMS electromagnetic (ECAL) and hadronic calorimetry and we are currently involved in upgrades for the High-Luminosity LHC era for ECAL and a dedicated precision timing detector.
The successful candidate would be stationed primarily at CERN and be expected to contribute to work in calorimeter operations, studies and upgrades. A portion of the appointment may also require residence
at the University of Virginia or Fermilab. Our postdoctoral research associates have opportunities to collaborate with UVa students, scientists, and faculty, and can also develop their own interests and projects.
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics by the appointment start date. Priority will be given to candidates based on excellence in LHC physics research, including data analysis and/or hardware experience.
This is initially a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for additional one-year terms, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
