Position Summary: The Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) at the UNC-CH seeks a Research Project Manager to work on an NSF-funded ADVANCE grant (HRD-1760187) designed to improve the mentoring climate on campus for faculty. As UNC-CH's pan-university faculty development center, the CFE supports the development of faculty in terms of research, leadership, teaching/learning and mentoring. The grant's goals are to improve and increase mentoring capacity at UNC through training senior faculty and administrators and provision of cohort-based training to junior and mid-career faculty, especially women and underrepresented minorities in STEM fields. The Research Project Manager will join a diverse team of faculty and professionals committed to targeting equity in access to mentoring. The Research Project Manager will independently manage and coordinate project activities, including implementation of the research study plans, data monitoring and management, and award compliance.The Research Project Manager will contribute to all areas of the project, including timeline and protocol development, data collection, database development/management, project management, financial and administrative activities, reporting and award compliance support, and dissemination (manuscript writing, presentation development). S/he must have excellent interpersonal/management skills, requiring verbal and written communication and coordination with a variety of individuals, including study participants; investigators across multiple departments, centers, and schools; and other university stakeholders. S/he must be experienced at interacting and working with diverse, vulnerable populations. S/he will be responsible for the planning, operational management, and oversight of the TEAM ADVANCE grant, from coordination of program development, to program implementation to the conclusion of the grant within the CFE. It is funded by the 3-year grant; extension contingent on availability of funds.
Education Requirements: Master's degree in STEM, Social Sciences, or related field preferred, OR, for candidates demonstrating comparable experience, will accept a relevant undergraduate degree and 3 or more years of experience in research management.
Qualification and Experience: At least 2 years of experience in research management or demonstrated related experience. Ability to effectively communicate in a cross-cultural environment. Operational management skills needed to plan, coordinate and complete studies. Experience in interpreting and managing budgets. Experience assisting with development of programs. Strong writing and presentation skills. Ability to organize and motivate others. Capacity to work effectively with and collaborate across multiple organizational units.
