The Department of Mathematical Sciences in the College of Science and Mathematics invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Professor. This position is located on the Armstrong campus in Savannah, GA., but may require teaching at other campuses.

Within this setting, the Department of Mathematical Sciences contributes significantly to the mission of the University through scholarly endeavors, engagement of students, and outreach to the community and the profession.The department, which has 50 full-time faculty members on the Statesboro campus and 20 full-time faculty members on the Armstrong campus, offers courses in mathematics, mathematics education and statistics, and has undergraduate programs in mathematics and a certificate program in actuarial science.The Statesboro campus offers a Master of Science program with concentrations in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Statistics, and Computational Science. The department features an energetic faculty with active colloquia and seminar series, including a Distinguished Lecture Series. In addition, many faculty members are active in professional organizations, some serving in leadership positions at the regional and national levels.It is expected that the successful candidates will strengthen these initiatives.
Position Description. Reporting to the department chair, the Assistant Professor of Mathematics position requires teaching, research, and service responsibilities and an earned doctorate in mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field.The position centers on strengthening the department's undergraduate program and includes teaching undergraduate courses, producing quality scholarship, a willingness to engage students in research, and performing institutional and professional service.The position is a 9-month tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
