Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The Department of Chemistry and Physics offers Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degrees in Chemistry. The Department provides students with a quality education and prepares students with the ability to provide quality chemical analysis through various analytical methods and instrumentations.
Under the administration of DOCP, the Interdisciplinary Materials Research and Education Laboratory (IMREL) was established as a platform to collaboratively conduct interdisciplinary materials research and education at FSU, funded by the National Science Foundation. It houses state-of-the-art research infrastructure. The mission of IMREL is to provide an open platform for faculty, staff and students at FSU, and external national and international collaborators to conduct cutting-edge materials research and transformative STEM education.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
NSF funded FSU with a project entitled "IMREL-CHRNS Partnership for Research and Education in Materials (IC-PREM) using a National Facility" (award No. DMR 1827731), in a total amount of $600,000. Hiring a Postdoctoral Fellow is included in the project activities. This position is fully supported by NSF including annual salary and fringe benefits. No cost from FSU is requested. The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research and research training of undergraduates, significantly promoting the research activities at FSU.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Postdoctoral Fellow is supervised by the PI, Dr. Zhiping Luo, supporting the research projects and research training of undergraduates in the following activities:
(1) Conducting research in synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials with enhanced physical and chemical properties.
(2) Collaborating with scientists at Center for High Resolution Neutron Scattering (CHRNS) at NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) for neutron scattering on nanomaterials.
(3) Conducting research training of undergraduates at IMREL, including sample synthesis, preparation, processing, characterization and property measurement.
(4) Assisting the PI to teach classes and labs.
(5) Daily maintenance of the research instruments at IMREL.
(6) Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Must hold a Ph.D. degree in Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or other related disciplines. The successful candidate must be very experienced in nanomaterial fabrications, especially by electrospinning, hydrothermal and mechanical injection methods. Other experiences in characterization by AFM, CV, FTIR, PL, UV-Vis, XRD, and electron microscopy are required. The candidate should possess a good level of communication skills, and is able to work with a wide range of researchers at IMREL.
