Degree and area of specialization:

Bachelor's degree required.
Master's degree preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

-- At least one year of post-baccalaureate professional experience, including experience in university admissions and/or higher education academic advising.
--Experience managing multiple, concurrent projects and tasks.
-- Experience interacting with a variety of audiences within higher education, including but not limited to, prospective and current students, faculty, staff, and/or community partners.
- Experience leading through influence without direct authority, and working independently as well as cooperatively within a dynamic team in a fast-paced setting.
--Knowledge of the UW System and higher education institutions in Wisconsin is highly desirable.

Position Summary:

The Adult Career and Special Student Services (ACSSS) unit is part of the Division of Continuing Studies (DCS) at UW- Madison. Our mission is to serve returning adult students and lifelong learners seeking the range of opportunities at UW-Madison. ACSSS is the advising, admissions, and the academic dean's office to over 2,000 visiting and nondegree University Special students each term, ranging from high school students to visiting international students to adults seeking professional development or life transition. This position will serve as an advisor for several of these unique populations, and will focus particularly on advising high school special students and visiting students. This responsibility requires attention to University admission criteria, available academic programs, and close collaboration with campus and community partners involved in the success of our students. The person who will fill this position must demonstrate a commitment to continuing education and lifelong learning, as well as issues of equity and diversity in higher education.

The Adult Career and Special Student Services office is open 7:45 to 4:30 Monday through Friday, with extended hours on Tuesdays until 7 pm, and periodic evening and weekend workshops/events. Tuesday evening appointments will be required.
