Degree and area of specialization:

A bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

** A well-qualified candidate will have at least 10+ years of experience with increasing levels of responsibility working in development, alumni relations, communications, marketing or a similar capacity dealing with external constituencies.
** Meaningful experience in or knowledge of all key areas of higher education advancement and external partnership (university and public/private) development.
** Experience working in a comprehensive campaign setting, including a strong track record of raising significant gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations; and the personal energy, enthusiasm, and drive to set and achieve ambitious goals.
** Experience creating growth strategies.
** Knowledge of marketing and communication strategies.
** Ability to build, manage, mentor, and motivate effective teams. Effective at establishing processes, metrics, and accountabilities.
** Ability to navigate a complex academic community, and the capability to build bridges and strong collaborative relationships with a range of internal colleagues and external stakeholders.
** Ability to champion lifelong learning by effectively articulating the vision and case for Continuing Studies philanthropy, other university relationships, and both public and private organizations.
** Ability to identify operational efficiency and the best use of resources, including a demonstrated understanding of budgets and the ability to manage them.
** Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills.

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Dean of the Division of Continuing Studies, the External Relations and Growth Strategies Associate Dean will lead a unit that comprises strategy development, corporate relations and stakeholder engagement, advancement and alumni relations, and marketing/communications programs. This position will oversee these activities, manage the connectivity between them, and supervise staff accordingly. The External Relations and Growth Strategies Associate Dean will be a member of the Division's senior leadership team.
