Degree and area of specialization:

Masters degree required. M.S. in computer sciences, statistics, mathematics, or Public Health related area preferred.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Expert-level database and SAS programming skills.
Working knowledge of SQL (or other database querying language)
Prior experience constructing analytic files from large databases and merging databases from multiple sources based on project specifications.
Prior research experience that includes constructing analytic datasets for hierarchical modeling, multivariable regression, and survival analysis is desirable.
Knowledge of relational health care databases (e.g., Medicare claims, electronic medical record, hospital discharge data) is desirable.
Experience with Microsoft Office suite.

Prefix assignment determined by years of relevant work experience. A minimum of 7 years' experience is required for appointment at the senior level.

Position Summary:

Are you an experienced database programmer who wants to make an impact on health care quality? The Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program (WiSOR), a vibrant, interdisciplinary, multi-investigator research program within the Department of Surgery, is seeking a programmer to join our rapidly growing program. As part of a team of programmers and biostatisticians, you will provide research analysis and programming expertise to support health services research on a variety of topics, including performance and safety in surgical care, patterns of care, and comparative effectiveness. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, detail-oriented problem solver who is both able to work independently and contribute to team science.

Additional Information:

WiSOR is a rapidly growing research program with the mission of improving the quality, safety, effectiveness and efficiency of surgical care through research and innovation. The program encompasses comparative effectiveness research, qualitative research particularly related to patient-provider interactions, as well as research in performance and safety in surgical care, patterns of care, quality of life, and decision analysis. The database programmer will collaborate with WiSOR faculty and staff with a variety of backgrounds including MDs, PhDs and MPHs.
