Ithaca College's Department of Media Arts, Sciences, and Studies (located in Ithaca, NY) is accepting applications for a full-time, non-tenure-eligible, Assistant Professor position in photography, to begin August 16, 2019. This 3-year position, with possibility of renewal contingent upon enrollment and staffing needs, is being offered in one of the strongest undergraduate communications programs in the country.
Teaching will include our Introduction to Photography class, as well as mid-and upper-level courses consistent with the applicant's area of professional specialization. Areas of particular programmatic need include, for example, studio lighting and non-silver analog processes. The candidate will be expected to achieve and sustain a high level of teaching effectiveness.
Position/Job Qualifications
An M.F.A. in photography-or from a program whose main emphasis is photography-is preferred. Applicants with a master's degree in photography, or in another discipline, and a distinguished professional background in the field of photography will also be considered. Prior accomplished college level teaching experience will be given particular priority. The successful applicant will possess both teaching and applied expertise in digital and analog photography.
A commitment to a liberal arts education within a professional program is expected. The successful candidate will also demonstrate an ability to teach in ways that value the varied learning needs and interests of a culturally diverse student population, and that reflect a commitment to encouraging the success of our students. Dept description: Our thriving photography program serves an academically diverse population of majors and minors studying across multiple areas, including photography, cinema, advertising, journalism, and documentary. Courses are taught in a state-of-the-art facility that includes two digital labs, a traditional wet darkroom, and gallery. Facilities are overseen and maintained by a dedicated technical support staff. Opportunities are available for support of faculty members' research/creative work through generous internal grants.
