Position Summary

The Institute for Public Policy and Social Research seeks a full-time post-doctoral Research Associate to serve a fixed term position (one year renewable for a second year based on performance and funding) to oversee research on the Correlates of State Policy Project (ippsr.msu.edu/public-policy/correlates-state-policy). The Project aims to compile, disseminate, and encourage the use of data relevant to U.S. state policy research, tracking policy differences across and change over time in the 50 states as well as their causes and consequences. We have gathered more than 1,500 variables from various sources and assembled them into one large, useful data-set to serve as a “one-stop shop” for academics, policy analysts, students, and researchers. The Research Associate will be responsible for upkeep and expansion of the data-set, encouragement of its wide use, and use of these data to produce peer-reviewed academic research and policy-relevant public reports. Appropriate candidates will demonstrate their familiarity and use of these data and their success in using data for scholarly and public communication. We welcome applicants from political science, sociology, economics, public policy, and related fields.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Political Science, Sociology, Economics

Minimum Requirements
  • The applicant must have a Ph.D. in the area of political science, sociology, economics, public policy, and related fields. 
  • The Research Associate will be responsible for upkeep and expansion of the dataset, encouragement of its wide use, and use of these data to produce peer-reviewed academic research and policy-relevant public reports. Appropriate candidates will demonstrate their familiarity and use of these data and their success in using data for scholarly and public communication
  • Strong communication skills required.
