The person who fills this position will work within the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (FCR-STEM) within the Learning Systems Institute (LSI) at Florida State

The Social Studies Content Specialist will work as an individual and as part of a team to create and publish
original instructional content for secondary social studies education and learning.

Creating original interactive online tutorials for students in secondary social studies
This may include U.S. history tutorials for middle and high school students and world history tutorials for
middle and high school students.

Working closely with instructional designers and narrators to build and publish original interactive online
tutorials for students.

Creating original educational resources for teachers of social studies.

Creating original educational resources to support the instruction of literacy in the content areas.

Conducting thorough, high-quality review of instructor and student materials for social studies.

Providing professional development and training as needed for classroom teachers, literacy coaches, and


Bachelor's degree in History, Social Studies Education, or related area and two years of experience as a classroom teacher in secondary social studies.

Excellent written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills.

Excellent organization, administrative, and time management skills.

Strong attention to detail and strong proofreading skills.

In-depth understanding of 6-12 social studies content with a strong background in American history and world

Excellent knowledge of Florida's State Standards in secondary social studies, particularly American and world
history, as well as Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects Standards.

Knowledgeable of key shifts in instruction based on State Standards

Knowledgeable of test item specs in social studies for the state of Florida's end of course exams.

Experience in facilitating professional development for classroom teachers.

Proficient with computer software programs including Google Docs, SharePoint, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint,
and Excel.

Enthusiastic about teaching social studies content to secondary students.

Creative, motivated, and able to work well individually and with a team.

Ability to create high-quality original educational resources (e.g., lesson plans and interactive online student
tutorials) aligned to State Standards in secondary social studies


At least 5 years of experience as a classroom teacher in secondary social studies.

Master's degree in History, Social Studies Education, or related area.

2+ years of professional experience in curriculum development and/or publications for secondary social

Experience using CPALMS tools and resources (

Anticipated Salary Range

$40,000 per 12 months, or negotiable based on education and experience

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.

Soft Money Funded Position

This is a soft money funded position, with renewal based on available funds and the needs of the University.
