POSITION: A probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor is available in the Department of Languages in the College of Arts and Sciences. The department seeks a Spanish generalist with expertise in applied Spanish (e.g., for the professions, health care, translation). The successful candidate will teach Spanish language at all levels. This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2019/2020 academic year, August 26, 2019.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in the area of Spanish or Foreign Language Education by August 26, 2019. (ABD applicants may be considered but must complete the terminal degree by March 20, 2020.) Demonstrated excellence in teaching, promise in scholarship, and native or near native competency in Spanish and English are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Evidence of skills in educational technology, experience teaching advanced Spanish composition and conversation, knowledge of assessment practices, training in foreign language pedagogy, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness. Specialty is open but preference will be given to those candidates with experience and research interests in applied Spanish (e.g., professions, health care, translation).


Teach Spanish language courses at all levels, including Advanced Composition and Conversation, as assigned; participate in research and scholarly activities; develop and/or maintain a scholarly research agenda; provide academic advising to students as assigned; engage in service to the department, University and profession.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Languages consists of eighteen full-time faculty and ten instructors.
