Shenandoah Valley Preparatory Music Program Director and Tenure-Track Music Faculty Member
POSITION: Administrative Director for the Preparatory Music Program, with tenure-track faculty status in the Department of Music. This is a full-time position that combines administrative and teaching responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS: DMA or PhD in Music required; evidence of successful arts administrative experience; Christian faith with strong affinity for the values espoused by EMU that draw from its Anabaptist/Mennonite heritage; a robust background in teaching, scholarship and/or musical performance; and willingness to contribute to university and departmental service.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Half of the responsibilities of this position involve the year-round administrative oversight of EMU’s Preparatory Music Program, which encompasses instrumental music instruction, Musikgarten, Shenandoah Valley Youth Symphony, and Harrisonburg City School Strings Program. Leadership of the Preparatory Music Program includes the hiring and oversight of employees; creating and maintaining the program budget; arranging a yearly calendar of performances and activities; and providing vision for future development of the program. This administrative responsibility is supplemented with teaching in the university’s undergraduate Department of Music. Subject areas will depend upon a candidate’s strengths and interests and could include private instrumental instruction, conducting instrumental ensembles, and/or teaching courses in music education.
COMPENSATION: Twelve-month contract. Salary determined by education and experience. Eastern Mennonite University uses a tenure-with-review contract system.
