Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in a field related to sustainability broadly defined

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Familiarity with academic programs and resources on a college campus. Previous experience working with college students of diverse backgrounds. Must have strong organizational and planning skills. Also must have strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively. At least one year of experience in a university setting preferred.

Position Summary:

The Program Coordinator position is a key staff and leadership position for the University of Wisconsin-Madison's GreenHouse Learning Community ( jointly administered through UW Residence Life and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. GreenHouse Learning Community is an undergraduate residential community for students interested in all facets of sustainable living and local service opportunities that reflect sustainability. GreenHouse students have access to a dedicated greenhouse on the roof of their dorm and participate in growing some of their own food in a community garden. The Program Coordinator oversees programming, dedicated seminars, and other community activities in cooperation with student leadership and a faculty director.

Additional Information:

Working occasional nights & weekends, and occasional travel required. This position is being recruited at 50-75%. At 50%, the incumbent will recruit, select, and supervise a garden/greenhouse manager responsible for equipping, developing, and managing protocol for the greenhouse space in Leopold Hall and nearby gardens. At 75%, a well-qualified and interested candidate could assume direct management of the gardens and greenhouse. Demonstrated experience with horticulture highly desirable for 75%, including knowledge of the following:
-all facets of greenhouse and garden management, including equipping the greenhouse space; developing protocol for student use of the space; and assessment of management regiment
-environmental conditions and manipulating temperature, ventilation, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques
