I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

Functioning as one multidimensional team, the Finance Division is responsible for the overall integrity of the university's fiscal activities. In that capacity, the Finance Division provides service excellence in all support and business operations to enhance the ability of the university to fulfill its vision of becoming one of the preeminent research universities in the nation and the world.

The Student Accounts Office is responsible for providing accurate invoices and a variety of payment options to our students. In addition, Collection team is responsible for providing customer service and payment options to our former students. The department is committed to providing excellent service to students throughout their educational experience at the George Washington University and beyond.
Reporting to the Director of Student Accounts, the Manager, Student Account Collections is responsible for managing GW's collection team and all activities related to collections of student balances, Perkins and institutional loans, and other outstanding invoices. This includes managing a current staff of three employees and the business relationships with four or more applicable vendors involved in the collection operations. The Manager will be responsible for maintaining GW's compliance with all relevant regulations, ensuring that the accounts receivable subsidiary ledger or supporting schedules are in balance with the General Ledger at all times, preparing monthly reports and using data to evaluate the overall performance of the collection team and its vendors. The Manager will provide the Director with strategic alternatives or tactical procedures to improve the operating results of the team. This position has supervisory responsibilities.

The position will also collaborate with other operating units to ensure compliance with university policies, identify potential process improvement and promote an environment of constant awareness and improvement. The position will support the customer service effort by researching and analyzing customer inquiries and requests, including settlement requests.

This position is considered a leadership position with the Student Accounts Office and will have input on strategy and tactics as well as exposure to various university partners.

This position performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 4 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with Perkins and institutional loans, preferably with a high volume of customer accounts. Experience in higher education. Working knowledge of collections regulations. Working knowledge of or in a Banner and or Oracle ERP systems / environments.
