The Wellness and Recreation Center Coordinator of Outdoor Adventures is responsible for assisting with the day to day operations and facilitation of the Outdoor Adventure program, an arm of Wellness and Recreation at Georgia Gwinnett College. The Coordinator position is responsible for assisting, elevating and coordinating all aspects of Outdoor Adventures. This includes, but is not limited to, programming on and off campus, land and water based programming in front country and backcountry settings, training and supervision of a growing student staff as well as the advancement of a new gear rental program. The Coordinator will report to the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures and as a member of the Wellness and Recreation team the coordinator maintains a professional relationships across campus and assist with the operations of the Wellness and Recreation Center when necessary.
- Assist with designing, planning, and implementing student-led Outdoor Adventures Programming that will encourage safe and enjoyable participation for a broad range of students
- Plan, facilitate and execute Outdoor Adventures programming, including evening, overnight and multi-day trips, leading trips as necessary
- Provide and train others to provide safe transportation of participants and student staff to and from events in GGC vehicles, including passenger vans and cutaway vans
- Work closely with the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures to plan and implement regular staff trainings, including annual multi-day expedition trainings
- Create risk management plans and preform risk management audits of all Outdoor Adventures programming
- Work closely with the Assistant Director of Outdoor Adventures for the continued advancement of the program and development of student staff and participants
- Assist in the hiring, selection, supervision, motivation, mentorship and evaluation of student employees. Complete biweekly timecard approval for student staff
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and assist in the general administration of Outdoor Adventures
- Ensure that student and professional staff maintain current certifications in CPR/First Aid, Wilderness Medicine and program specific certifications
- Assist with equipment inventory, repair and procurement
- Assist in annual program assessment and safety review
- Assist in writing program manuals, policies, and procedures
- Performs other duties, as assigned
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Current Wilderness First Responder certification OR expired Wilderness First Responder certification AND completion of re-certification within 90 days of hire
- Prior working experience in the management of a variety of outdoor recreation programs including both land and water-based activities and trips of various lengths
- Proven ability to manage projects and deliver results
- Ability to think critically and present information
- Knowledge in the management of a wide variety of collegiate outdoor recreation programs
- Ability to work some holidays, evenings and weekends as required by the responsibilities of the job
- Valid Georgia Driver's License and ability to pass a motor vehicle records check
- Graduate Degree in Recreation, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field
- Previous experience assisting with the management and operation of a campus recreational sports facility/program
- Two years higher education programming experience directly supervising student employees
- Current W-EMT, CPR/ First Aid
- Program specific instructor certifications and expertise, e.g. PICA, AMGA, ACA etc.
